American Empire
As I mentioned, while hiking around the Georgia mountains, there was a project simmering that I wanted to share: American Empire. This is the latest in a string from this publisher that I’ve had a great time with.
First, the “loser:”

And, the cover selected:

It was a toss-up for me in terms of preference, even if the latter cover is based on an original photograph — I would have been completely happy no matter which they chose.
Special kudos to comic artist and genius Craig Hamilton, who graciously let me intrude into his Lego collection with my camera. Thanks, Craig!

I like both covers. Monochrome works better with the one below, although I have two issues with this one: the fond of “American Empire” is to elegant - it deafeats the purpose of the title and the crop on the left disturbs the balance of the picture. Still, the combination of lego - somewhat cheap, amateurish - with those two lions is a message in itself. Nice.
Martin, that’s a good point; I was trying for something “more” than just the traditional serif — again, as a contrast with the Lego piece, something specifially “overboard.”
Click through to Flickr to see a couple of other contrasts I had in mind while putting the second one together (in the comments there).
My script selection is limited — want very much to add to it, but the font budget is at zero right now. Glad that, on the whole, it works for you.
