You Want to do What!? Cool.
[Yale]: What are your plans following graduation in May?
Ashley Linnenbank: I want to work in graphic design, but I didn’t major in Art, so I’m going back to school for that. Starting in early July, I’ll be attending The Creative Circus in Atlanta. I’d really love to go into book design or maybe fuse my love for music with that of art and design for bands and such. So two more years of school and then I’ll be prepared to conquer the world.
Wow. I’d really love to go into book design. We’re on students’ radar…! Is book design becoming more than a niche?
Good luck, Ashley!

Book design is definitely on students’ radars. At least those students that love design as an art form, and not solely as a job.
I struggled finding a job at first because all my city had to offer was advertising/branding work…zzzzzzz
I really wanted to get into book design, looked to the big city next door (that I knew had a publications company) and next thing I know, I’m designing books!! Totally the job I wanted when I was in school. Although, i’m a rare breed, i think.
I’m a new graduate interested in none other than book cover design; problem is the practical advice on penetrating the workforce offered in school is all about working for big studios and in big companies’ design departments.
I’m a freelancer now, but working mostly in retail packaging (yay). I don’t have any idea how to get contracts with publishers. Any advice?
