Favorite Graphic Design Mag?
In addition to Todd’s (much better) question below, here’s another.
Over the past couple of years, because of moving and a bunch of other reasons, I’ve let most of my magazine subscriptions lapse. Was planning on re-subscribing to what used to be my fave: How.
However (heh), before I do, let’s get a consensus going: from a book design perspective, what’s the best (or just your favorite) graphic design magazine?

Comments:
I’m addicted to eye magazine, published out of Britain. Its a quarterly that focuses their energy on theory and discussion of the practice of design, rather than just showcasing various studios or suppliers. I find their articles get my mind working in more creative ways, which helps me with my book designs far more than looking at the latest letterheads on display.
US mags: PRINT, CA
UK mags: Eye, Baseline
Tech mags: Layers, InDesign magazine
Can’t stand HOW anymoe. Way too many inserts.
STEP is ok sometimes.
IMO, the UK mags beat the snot out of the US mags. Well worth the extra £
I think there is some agreement here. How is lame. Seems like it has wannabe’s as its target. The only magazines I read now are CA and an occasional issue of Print (when the main feature isn’t Post-Soviet Eastern Europe poster design or some other obscurity.)
Last year I accepted a trial subscription to How but cancelled it after two issues. It felt more like a consumer lifestyle magazine than a design magazine; seemed to focus too much on the design of designers’ offices, the design of various products that designers could buy, etc. As Dwell is to architecture, How is to graphic design. The only design magazines I ever purchase are Print and the CA design annuals.
hi all, i am currently studying a foundation degree graphic design course and am wondering which is the best magazine to subscribe to. i live in the UK and i am looking to be inspired from the magazines to help with ideas, designs, layout…whatever. i like to see other graphic designers work and information on things like… how to promote yourself, job adverts.. maybe interviews.
also, are there any books you would recomend?
