Designorati

PORTLAND, Ore. — 22 Sept., 2005 — Designorati.com, the first blog network exclusively for creative professionals, by creative professionals, and driven by passion, officially debuted today. Beginning with nine Topics ranging from Graphic Design and Illustration through Creative Culture and Strategy, Designorati’s mission of reporting on all professional creative disciplines and concerns is well underway.

bq. “First and foremost, Designorati is about passion,” says Publisher and founder, Pariah S. Burke. “Creation is passion, and any writing about, or in support of, passion must itself arise from passion.

“Creative professionals are not creatives because we chose to be, but because we must be. Somewhere, deep inside each of us, is an undeniable compulsion to create, whether that’s with pixels, ink, fabric, metal, or words. Designorati is written to the passion in every creative, and by the same passion within the members of Team:Designorati—the peers of every working creative.”

Interesting.

P.S. Bonus points to them for highlighting this off-site editorial on Quark’s logo, as was previously discussed here.

This great news … I’m moving to Portland on Oct.15 and just can’t wait to become part of its design community. Thanks and bookmarked.

Thanks for the mention, GCH. Designorati is developing a new Topic about periodical design, so if you’re looking for other writing outlets…?

Chuck: Portland isn’t America’s largest city in any sense, including the design community, but having lived and designed in Boston, Tampa, Orlando, and Daytona Beach, I can honestly say that Portland’s design community is the friendliest and tightest I’ve yet encountered. There are egos, of course, but less than one would encounter elsewhere; Portland is very welcoming in ours as well as most communities. I hope you like it.

Look me up when you get to town!

Many thanks. Once I’m able to keep up here, perhaps…!

having lived and designed in […] Tampa, Orlando, and Daytona Beach

I didn’t like the Florida design community at all. Too many egos attached to faaaar too little talent. (Sorry to be blunt, Florida…;)
