Dear Printers

I think I’ve complained about this before, but it bears repeating:

If you offer FTP, requiring a print before you begin work is stupid. Use the PDF to make a print — that’s what it’s for!

Seriously: if the hi-res PDF is good enough to do output from, it’s good enough to do a comp from. Even if you have to charge extra.

Thanks,

Giles

P.S. We’ve signed off on the PDF, so it’s not an issue of permissions.

Giles,
Are they just wanting some kind of color reference from you so they know what you are expecting?

Forgive me, I should have made that clearer.

No — it’s a black and white interior.

Ah…the joys of the print world…don’t you love it?

I have never understood that, either. Wasn’t that why PDF was developed in the first place? So anyone on any machine on any platform would see exactly how the file should look? And it would look exactly the same whether I printed it out or you printed it out?

I haven’t had that problem with printers I’ve worked with before, and I seem to have circumvented the problem with new printers by asking for a proof of Adobe’s good ol’ OleNoMoire file before sending my files.

OleNoMoire? What is that?

bt: yes!
