Best of 2004?

Ok, what’s the best cover you’ve seen in 2004? The prettiest? The most clever? The most eye catching? The one that said “own me because I’m beautiful.”?

Vote early and vote often. I’ll keep moving this post up until the end of the month.

The jacket of Michael Chabon’s The Final Solution is gorgeous, I think.

Selecting the best cover I’ve seen all year is a bit of a tall order. However, I love this cover featuring the graphics for the BBC’s ‘Who do you think you are?’ series. The series follows the progress of some UK celebrities as they look up their ancestors and work out their family tree.

I loved the cover to Wicked. Beautiful piece of art, nice oval cut, double-cover type of effect.

I’ve got to say as far as striking covers go Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell is supurb. Just looking at it makes me want to read it. It’s a prime example of tasteful, simple design.

Wicked is excellent as well.

Chris Ware’s design for McSweeney’s 13 floored me.

The Peanuts collections (1950-52 and 1953-54) endeared me.
