Melanie Craft

This is soooo last week but Beatrice.com highlighted a moving San Francisco Chronicle story titled A Day in the Life of . . . Melanie Craft that should not go unnoticed.

Writer Carolyne Zinko takes a hard look at the dog-eat-dog world of a struggling author Melanie Craft whom some have called a “21st-century Jane Austen.” Photographer Christina Koci Hernandez delivers haunting photographs to accompany Zinko’s article.

1998’s A Hard-Hearted Man is just one of the novels that has propelled her acceptance into the hallowed writing circles of such literary magazines as The New Yorker, Granta, and Paris Review.

I read the article as well as “Man Trouble” by Melanie Craft and I must say that I disagree with your statement that she is remotely close to Jane Austen in her writing ability. I would like to see who would write such an absurd statement. “Man Trouble” was a fluffy, uneventful book with an equally weak heroine (as in all her novels). Please do not insult the memory of Jane Austen by comparing Ms. Craft to her. You are abviously on her payroll.

Dear Kelly,

I was being sarcastic.

Oooh! It makes me so darn mad when somebody is in the press and has money and nice cars and goes to spas! Mad mad mad! How dare they? How DARE they?

Is this a chat forum, or a cat forum? Lordy. In any case, since we are being catty, I submit the following to Amanda: The author writes light romance novels (hello?), just in case you are feeling a little foggy from the ambien today. I would hazard that she takes her stories less seriously than you take your wee little posts. In any case, your eloquent internet prose is no more likely to propel you into into “the hallowed writing circles of such literary magazines as The New Yorker, Granta, and Paris Review.”

And Kelly: You are “abviously” completely lacking in subtlety, not to mention speeeling skilz. Get back on the short bus. Go now. Good dog.

Hi Nicky!

Thanks for putting the whole Melanie Craft drama in perspective. I agree with you that my “eloquent internet prose” will not get me into Granta. That’s ok but I do wish that I had just a smidgen of such talent.

Melanie Craft doesn’t have an imaginary bone in her body. She writes things that are too close to home…her home. Not imaginary at all. She’s boring…not hot like Trump’s girl. Not cultured either.

Funny how harshly and unfairly some people judge others, especially when they are rich, famous, or beautiful. Vicki thinks Ms. Craft is boring. Maybe it would be kinder and more fair to say that she finds her writing boring. I assure you that Ms. Craft is one of the most exciting women in the world, and she is not only cultured but one of the most intelligent and kindest people I’ve ever met. Critique her writing—everyone has that right. But don’t judge her without knowing her. She would never do that to you.

I have to say that without an ulterior motive, Richar R. sounds insane.

Ms. Craft as a former bartender and house-cleaner who was eyeing houses in affluent neighborhoods of SF while thinking it would be great if an old man living there would give her his house in his will in exchange for taking care of him and his potential pets.

Anyone familiar with Anna Nicole Smith??? I thought so.

She’s has one joke and one comment prepared and then her prepared sense of humor disappers while panic in her face replaces it.

It is true she has no imagination, it is true she only writes what she knows from her own experience. Another thing that is true she likes to read, and indiscriminantly borrows from romances she has already read.

He calls her exciting. If you’re someone with a temperament of Richard Wright (the comedian) I can see how you may say that.

Cultured? Do you mean in Flava Flav sense? In that case I may agree with you.

She’s not rich - her husband is. She’s not famous - her husband is. And she’s definitely not beautiful by any western or eastern standards. Makeup and hairstylists can make Miss Piggy look nice. She is an average looking, mediocrily educated tallentless gold digger.

What is with all the dislike of this woman? I can’t say that I know her or much about her, but I didn’t see anything repulsive in that article. For the most part it was very vanilla…a rich woman who gets manicures and has a chef? Not much in the way of news there.

Wow, I have yet to read her books but do know her (melanie),she lived with me when she moved to San Francisco.Melanie is actually very beautiful, incredibly intelligent and very very kind.Jealousy is a bitch.

if you need a proof of what melanie looks like, click the article link posted on top. the gym, the typing and the nail salon photo. they speak for themselves. if these are the best photos they could pick… so stop that beautiful nonsense.

pass on the books, stephanie. torch novels, as quoted by wall street journal.

i heard her husband and she are getting separated?
time for a new version. he he.

don’t confuse objectivity with jealousy.

sorry, she might have looked good at one pint of her life, but she is the most boring and talentless person I know. No wonder her husband has numerous girlfriends!
