I feel like this is absolute, definitive proof that you cannot fake a cool layout.

Here is a 2001 issue of Transworld Skateboarding. It doesn’t look great but it is still somehow cooler than the featured magazine. Probably because it doesn’t try nearly as hard to be everything to everyone.
