Lent

Lent has arrived.

Normally I feel relieved once this season has arrived. There are always bad habits to leave behind for 40 days, new resolutions to make, and there’s always the need to set aside the temporary and unimportant for that which is holy and lasting but this year, well, this year I don’t want a season of penance. This year I want for Easter to come tomorrow.

It’s raining this morning in Bradenton. Fitting, eh?

Comments:

I find that the times I’m least enthused about seasons of penance (like Yom Kippur), the more I need them. My household always took on a mitzvah for Lent instead of giving something up; I much prefer giving charity to giving up chocolate.

An easy fast to you today.
