Some Kidd named Chip

My trip to the New York and the Toy Fair is winding down, and I’m finally getting a chance to spend a quiet morning going through pictures, reflecting on the trip, and posting a couple of overdue blog entries.

While experiencing the Toy Fair and all that’s involved with helping to man a booth and sell The Playmakers was fun, by far the professional highlight of my trip was meeting Chip Kidd.

Many moons ago, a few of his covers — notably All the Pretty Horses, with its simple yet powerful treatment — got me thinking about book design. It just felt right, somehow, and was greatly inspirational.

Chip’s office is bulging at the seams with one great project after another, like a smorgasbord of outstanding design: the Vertical items, an incredible Peanuts title, and amongst the titles some guy with great insight and a wonderful sense of humor:

Chip, thank you so much for meeting with me — and, once again, serving as an inspiration.
