Graphic Design . . . Punk Band?
I like punk, and I like graphic design, but the two never seemed particularly compatible. Well, thanks to these guys, these concepts are . . . still very much exclusive.
That’s not to say that punk didn’t give us some great design, but songs about graphic design seems like a bit of a stretch.
Anyway, some of their demo “ALT+0135” is online. Song number six is “I Don’t Know Who I Hate More, You or Quark.” There’s a song called “CMYK.” And then there’s my personal favorite, “You’re Getting Paid More to Make My Life Harder.”
Now, while I agree with the overall sentiment, I can’t say that their working harder could be so unjust, considering that their site navigation is intentionally mystery meat.
If they just had a song called “Saul Bass Rocks You.” Then I could really dance to this.

Comments:
Hey, one of my favorite They Might Be Giants songs is the theme song they wrote for their graphic designers (The Chopping Block): “Oranges and Graphic Design.”
Now all we need is an old-school rap about Pagemaker.
Oh, Evan, now you’ve made me wistful for my youth and hanging out with bad boys who wore all black and insisted on listening to that horrible Lydia Lunch.
Here’s a nice version of the Femmme’s Add it Up.
(Sigh.)
I must agree. I’ve tried to meld the two before, but not with much success.
