Things Overheard At The Bookshow:

“I was in a bookstore as a customer (instead of signing books) when I heard a lady ask an employee for a book with the word ‘bees’ in the title. I inched over to where they were because I was excited thinking that they might be referring to mine. The bookstore employee says, ‘I know which book you want’ and picks up a copy of the book I had written. The customer said in return, ‘No, I don’t think that’s it’ to which the employee replied, ‘Yes it is.’ That’s when I learned the real role of independent booksellers - to hoist good books upon people that they don’t think they want.” — Sue Monk Kidd

“For some reason people don’t really want to buy new age books that come from Texas.” — a Texan publisher talking about what kind of books they do

“You’re from South Carolina. That’s why you have that pretty accent.” — an author. (I have many things but a pretty accent isn’t one of them. An inability to pronounce basic English words and to butcher the language atrociously, yes. But if you want to risk your soul by lying just to sell your book - go ahead.)
