Minimalist book design
NavPress has a new series of books called FreshResource.
The trouble is that I can’t decide whether I love or hate the minimalist look here. Ideas?
And that leads me to another question: Is print minimalism passé? What about Web minimalism?

Comments:
Saddle stitched!? Don’t dislike the design, though.
Minimalism seems to me to still very much have a place in book design (among so many other things). Fresh, clean, and simple are powerful tools.
It’s cool that you found these books. I am a designer at a Christian book publisher, and my co-workers and I were discussing these books just the other day. Overall, we favored the minimilistic look because these books will stand apart from their counterparts who tend to be quite loud and obnoxious. These books are effective because they are so quite. Well done, NavPress!
minimalism AIN‘T DEAD YET!
depends on the context/subject matter — minimalism still has a real place in book design, imho.
i far prefer a simple look to overblown everything-but-the-kitchen-sink design. maybe it’s just because i spend all day doing book design, but that’s how i see it.
long live SIMPLICITY!
I’m all for clean and simple covers. I’m just still wondering if the FreshResource covers aren’t too simple…
The look is simple and unifying. I love the iconography used in the design. It almost made me convert!
Minimalism will, of course, be passé if one approaches it only as a design trend. If approached as a statement or work, it will always stand the test of time. Let’s just not let it reach the spoken word. The next thing you know, we’ll be immortalised by two-word speeches.
Nice link.
